The patient has experienced something unpleasant. EMDR helps make the memory of this moment less unpleasant. During treatment, the patient briefly thinks back to this moment. Meanwhile, the patient pays attention to something else, such as a light that moves or balls that vibrate. In this way, the unpleasant feeling becomes less and less. The patient is informed by text, animation and illustrations.
