Zuyderland hospital bridges communication gap with Indiveo

Informing and preparing patients for an examination or treatment is challenging. Research shows that healthcare providers spend 30% of their time informing patients. Of the information the patient then receives, only 30 to 40% is remembered. Often the information is perceived by patients as complex and incomprehensible, especially in stressful situations.

To bridge this communication gap, Zuyderland Hospital is deploying Indiveo animations and instruction cards.

Indiveo pilot at Lung Oncology

Zuyderland conducted an experiment from Innovation Lab Zuyderland regarding the use of Indiveo. During this experiment we investigated whether Indiveo is an addition and/or enrichment for digitizing care paths. In order to retrieve the necessary information, a pilot was conducted with the care pathway Longoncology. Here patients were informed via Indiveo in preparation for three examinations: Bronchoscopy, Ebus and EUS.

Several methods were used to evaluate the effectiveness of the Indiveo pilot, including interviews with healthcare providers, patient surveys and statistics from the Indiveo platform. Experiences were also gathered from other mProve hospitals, which have been working with Indiveo for some time.

Patient experiences

During the pilot, patients were asked what they thought of healthcare information through Indiveo. This was asked through surveys. Patients indicate that they are better involved in relevant research and that Divis are easy to open. The language used in the Divis and the readability of the instruction cards is rated by patients as "good to very good. Of the patients who completed the survey, as many as 100% indicated that they would recommend Indiveo information to others.

Experiences of caregivers

What healthcare professionals think about working with Indiveo is also important. Interviews were therefore conducted with 7 healthcare professionals during the Zuyderland pilot. Healthcare providers indicate that Indiveo is a more efficient way of communicating and more than half think that they will save time in the consultation room with Indiveo. They find that Indiveo makes for better informed and more engaged patients. All would recommend Indiveo to healthcare colleagues.

Nice results

Zuyderland says the positive impact on caregivers and patients is abundantly clear. In the coming period, the lessons learned in the pilot will be further developed.

"Indiveo is a promising application that can improve communication and engagement in healthcare," said Zuyderland. "Patients report being better informed and the healthcare providers involved recommend being informed through Indiveo."
