Understandable and unified and information for all Frisian breast cancer patients.

The four Frisian hospitals Antonius Sneek, MCL Leeuwarden, Nij Smellinghe Drachten and Tjongerschans Heerenveen together with Pathology Friesland and the Radiotherapeutic Institute Friesland (RIF) the Oncology Network Friesland Region (ONF).

The Oncology Network Frisian Region (ONF).

Good cancer care in the region

The ONF is committed in various ways to ensuring high-quality cancer care in the Frisian region and guaranteeing it for the future. Good cooperation between the hospitals in the region is very important for this. Because each hospital has its own expertise, patients are referred to other Frisian hospitals for some types of cancer. In certain cases, referrals may also be made to a university hospital or to a cancer center outside the network. The most appropriate treatment is sought for each patient. Close to home if possible, or a little further away if necessary.

"The short videos are very clear. As a result, I understand very well what it is about."

Informing patients in the region

High quality and understandable information is very important for patients with cancer and for their loved ones. Because there is a lot of cooperation in the Frisian region, unambiguous information is very important. The ONF asked Indiveo to make the information for breast cancer patients and their loved ones understandable and to standardize it for all Frisian hospitals.

10 comprehensible modules with animations (Divis)

The choice was made to translate a dozen complex topics into understandable information. These include Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) and treatments such as breast-conserving surgery, immunotherapy or chemotherapy. Each topic has been designed as a comprehensible animation and provided with all the necessary information surrounding the topic such as proper preparation.

The developed 10 Divis broadly cover the following topics:

  • Benign breast abnormalities
  • Suspicion of breast cancer
  • Familial and hereditary aspects surrounding breast cancer
  • Forms of breast cancer
  • Aftercare and follow-up of breast cancer

"Patients found the sentinel procedure difficult to understand and questions were frequently asked about this. Now that we are using the Divi sentinel procedure, it is noticeable that patients understand the procedure earlier and better."

More time for care

Understandable breast cancer information saves health care providers a lot of "explanation time. This allows for efficient and sustainable use of staff and more focus on patient care. Moreover, healthcare providers and communication experts can learn about patients' information needs with Indiveo.

The animations focus on the anatomy of the human body and the various operations that take place in the hospital. A good example of this combination is the information surrounding the sentinel gland procedure.
